On Sunday night, my fiancee and I had ourselves a little dinner party. Being who I am, I always want control of the CD player when we have people over to the house. I want to control the mood, steer the evening, etc. (you record snobs out there know what I'm talking about) However, what I usually want to hear (Comets on Fire, Dead Moon, Stooges) doesn't help people relax or digest food. BUT...on Sunday, I pulled out a little piece of swag I picked up at SXSW, threw it in, and everyone fuckin' loved it. The Light in the Attic sampler, which is available for free with any online LITA purchase and on the front counters of our local indie music sellers, had everyone in the house turning their heads, asking "Who is this?"
"The Saturday Knights," I'd say.
A few minutes would go by. "Who's this?"
"Black On White Affair," I'd say.
And again. "Who's this?"
"Karen Dalton," I'd say.
So, point of this post...we already knew that our local upstart was one of the most interesting and exciting labels in the country right now...but did you know they'll also liven up a dinner party? Hell yeah. So, if you have trouble figuring out what to put on when you have guests, look no further than this, my friends.
