When Guy Clark Offers You A Drink

Take a drink.

Guy&Susanna.bmp This has been bugging me all morning and I need to get it off my chest. I'm only about 50 pages into To Live's To Fly: The Ballad of the Late, Great Townes Van Zandt. So far, it's been quite good, well-reseached, etc. However, in Chapter Three, writer John Kruth gets invited to Nashville to interview Guy Clark, Townes' best-friend who remains super protective of his memories. If you're doing a project on Townes, word has it Guy Clark is the gatekeeper. In this book, Kruth shows up at Guy's house at eleven in the morning. For the purposes of the interview, Guy is already swigging from a bottle of tequila. He's sizing up the New York writer big time, like Bill Monroe used to do, only drunk. But when Guy offers the writer a drink...he refuses. Guy is, naturally, deeply perturbed and the interview seems to only get worse as a result. Now...even though it's eleven a.m., wouldn't you want to do whatever it takes to get Guy Clark on your good side??? Jesus Christ...
