What Were They Smokin'?

Common and Alicia Keys the only aces in this flop.

I realize that everybody has to start somewhere blah blah blah, but why rapper Common and R&B superwoman (and Dylan muse) Alicia Keys chose to make their big-screen acting debuts in the unmitigated turd that is Smokin' Aces is beyond me.  Granted, they were pretty much the two best things about this damn near unwatchable film; he as a taciturn bodyguard who doesn't take kindly to backstabbing, and she as a Pam Grier-approved, Sapphic sexbomb assassin turned googly-eyed straight by Common's chivalrous ways (much to the chagrin of her .50-caliber-toting gal-pal). Troubling is a recent interview in which Common said of the clunky, absolutely ridiculous script, "The way it flowed, it felt like music to me...it was like poetry to me."  This cannot bode well for his next album.
