Slayer and Neko Case Get Their Due

But not on the same awards show.

Though it wasn't televised, Slayer won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance. It could certainly be argued that Mastadon was a more worthy nominee, but at least Lamb of God didn't win. In a ceremony much more relevant to fans of off-the-radar music, Ms. Case won Female Artist of the Year at the Plug Awards on Saturday in NYC. The complete list of winners and more background on the show can be viewed here (a Lifetime Achievement award for Stephen Malkmus? Awesome and hilarious).

On a related note, Neko delivered a splendid set opening for Merle Haggard last night. My review will be up shortly, but for now please check out the gorgeous slideshow by Jenny Jiménez below.
