If the white-sexy-bad boy club rap MC is as tired as the mash-up, you gotta wonder just where Pittsburgh Slim has been sleeping, or if he has just been in a coma since Jamie Kennedy’s B-Rad dropped “tired-ass rhymes” on 2003’s Malibu’s Most Wanted. On his recent debut, Tastemaker, Slim tries to highlight his diverse musical interests (hence the title), and manages to capitalize on the worst character flaws of both the mash-up and club rappers. Words of advice, Slim: Don’t sample “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and sing “I fuck on the first date, cuz that shit don’t be worth the wait”—you sound like a VD breeding ground, not to mention a stupid asshole for using the song to begin with. With such misogynistic couplets as “I like when girls kiss girls” and “You can be my dog/I can be your toy,” Slim may push a few buttons in Seattle. Hopefully, for his sake, he’s coming with a posse.
