Like the similarly minded Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, Britons Rob Brown and Sean Boothworking together under the Autechre moniker since the early 90smake experimental electronic music that to some people is exciting, enthralling, and invigorating, and to vastly more people is utterly baffling, maddening, and off-putting. If you happen to be in the latter camp, and yet havent completely given up on looking for an in to the often inscrutable IDM world, I heartily recommend spending some time with Autechres stunning new Quaristice, the duos first disc in three years. Wholly inviting and yet plenty interesting and challenging, its compositionswhich range from watery, ambient drones to atmospheric electro and playfully haywire glitchare rarely devoid of warmth, soul, creativity, and purpose. Unleashed in the live setting, this stuff will absolutely gratify the true believers, and almost certainly convert more than a few skeptics, too. With Massionix, Rob Hall and DJ Parsons.
