Wildlife

Thursday, December 6

I’m not ashamed to admit it: I like a good nature-inspired band name even if I don’t like the band. Caribou, Deerhoof, Panther, Black Elk, Deer Tick—these days the list could go on and on. Wildlife one-upped all of them, however, by insisting on being associated with not just

one animal but all of them. With that name, I figured they’d go one of two ways: They’d play either indie caveman doom-core or some kind of abstract folk. Turns out, they kinda do both. Some of their stuff crunches and hisses like music made by tribes of post-apocalyptic garbage salvagers. Other times, they make creepy dry-wood folk that is epic and sweeping, like some crippled beach perched at the edge of the world. With Doomhawk and Weirdlords.
