If you haven't had a chance to pick up this week's paper, do yourself a favor and check out Charles Cross' take on the hyjinks at Iris Dement's 1997 gig in Roslyn at a Northern Exposure fan fest. The best part, to me, is that if you've ever had the privilege of speaking with Mr. Cross is that this piece sounds EXACTLY like him telling me a story. Love it. Read it here:
The afternoon concert was part of Moosefest, a gathering of fans of the television comedy/drama Northern Exposure, which should have been the first sign that this was to be a hellish day. Though the program was based in the fictional town of Cicely, Alaska, it was filmed in Roslyn (or on a soundstage in Redmond). When the show went off the air in 1995, "Mooseheads" (like Deadheads but without the tie-dye) decided to hold these yearly conventions and do things like auction shirts worn by the "Dr. Joel Fleischman" character.
