Renee McMahonIn 2010, Sub Pop-signed Avi Buffalo essentially lived up to the hype, releasing and touring behind one of the best albums of the year. Their self-titled debut was an exceptional summer album full of frontman Avigdor Zahner-Isenberg’s masterful guitar playing and songwriting about the perils of adolescent love, like standout track “What’s In It For?” For the maturity of Avi Buffalo’s material, it’s hard to believe Zahner-Isenberg still isn’t even old enough to drink.I give that album a listen every couple of weeks or so. But what’s been on repeat since the band uploaded it to their SoundCloud a few weeks ago is a new song, “How Come.” Didn’t know about it? Well, it’s one upside to following Avi Buffalo on Facebook and Twitter. Accompanying the posting on Facebook of the new song was a comment from Avi Buffalo that was fist-pump worthy: “Future album song for future Avi Buffalo album.””How Come” is a delight, and feels a little more laid-back than most of their material that has already been officially released. Its guitar hums alongside Zahner-Isenberg’s unmistakable vocals. Just yesterday, an alternate demo of the song was posted as well. This stripped-down acoustic version might top the other version, coming across as much more vulnerable. Even though these are only a few tracks, just the fact that Avi Buffalo is thinking about their next album is excellent news.Follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
