Slim's Last Chance Chili Finally Opening

Kwab Copeland is a busy man. Chatting with him last week about the opening of Slim's Last Chance Chili, we ended up taking stock of everything he has going on. He's handling Jules Maes' duties, SLCC, and in addition to being in the beginning stages of planning this year's REVERBfest, he's doing a little bit of part-time work back at the Sunset.

As we reported a while back, Jenny Bendel is going to have her hands full over at King Cobra, so she's ceding her Sunset 4 O'clock booking duties to Fred "Johnny Skolfuck" Speakman. With a some help from Copeland, Speakman will be re-branding the Sunday matinee series as "Sabbath Bloody Sunset", expanding the genres booked and adding his own twisted brand of deviance to the mix (they don't call him Johnny Skolfuck for nothing). First show with these two at the helm will be Sunday, February 17.

So about SLCC...well, you can read my full report in Rocket Queen tomorrow, but suffice to say, it was worth the wait. Celeste and her team have created the perfect wild west vibe for Georgetown and the ideal compliment to their first business, Pig Iron BBQ (located immediately next door). I have no doubt that the soft opening this Saturday with Dragstrip Riot, Load Levelers, Hard Money Saints, Acid Angels, and the F-Holes (a benefit to offset mounting medical bills for former Pig Iron BBQ employee Jennifer Shore) will be a big success. It seems like it's taking Georgetown forever to bust out the way everyone keeps predicting, but I'd say this is a notable step in the right direction.
