On The Eve Of The Indiana Primary...
Posted May 5 at 1:24 pm by Brian J Barr"I'll puke if that jukebox plays John Cougar one more time..."
On the eve of the Indiana primary, I can't help but think of that great St. Louis concern, the Bottle Rockets, and their masterpiece of narrative song "Indianapolis".
Take note: after the state of Indiana has made its decision, the Bottle Rockets will make an Emerald Shitty stop this Saturday, May 10 at the Tractor. The band is celebrating 15 years of rock n' roll madness.

Yahoo's Most Annoying Singers List
Posted April 22 at 12:03 pm by Brian J Barr
It's listmania everyday over on Yahoo! Music. On the heels of yesterday's list of Top 25 Worst Rappers comes The Ten Most Annoying Singers. I agree with pretty much every choice on the list. Celine Dion, as everyone knows, is the real beast of the bunch. And writer Rob O' Connor is spot-on when he says Conor Oberst sounds "like he's swimming back to the womb". I agree with Franki Valli, Billy Corgan, and Scott Stapp...but definitely take issue with Tiny Tim. I mean, c'mon, you can't go lumping in an act like Tiny Tim with James Blunt. Tim was annoying, sure, but that was trumped by the novelty of it all.
Of course, kudos also go to O'Connor for leaving Yoko Ono off the list. But I would go so far as to exclude Michael Bolton if it meant including Thom Yorke of Radiohead.
Hmm...this puts me in mind of another infamous list generated years ago by our own Mike Seely.

Ben Gibbard's High School Years
Posted April 18 at 12:22 pm by Chris Kornelis
Gibbard's 1994 yearbook photo.
Bremerton's Kitsap Sun newspaper's got a story about Bremerton son/Death Cab frontman Ben Gibbard's high school years in today's issue. Angela Dice dug up old photos from Olympic High School yearbooks, chatted with teachers, and pupil himself.
Definitely a must-read for th DCFC junkies out there. Death Cab kicks of their small-room tour tonight at Bremerton's Admiral Theater. It's Gibbard's first gig in his hometown in over a decade. Yes, the 1,000-seat house is more than sold out.

The path between Visqueen and Metallica contains 4 steps...

Who knew? But it's true! Kwab Copeland turned me on to the Band to Band search engine/genome mapper after discovering his band (the Beltholes) are distantly related to Duran Duran and Lords of the New Church. That's one of the more awesome and hilarious music-related time-wasters I've seen lately, though trying to find all 50 band names in this painting is always a good too (click here for a larger version):

David Karsten Daniels Goes Nuts For Residencies
Posted April 4 at 12:21 pm by Brian J Barr
David Karsten Daniels is soon to become Seattle's new favorite singer-songwriter. Aja wrote about him in brief this week (expect something of length on him in our pages soon), but we were both blown away just glancing at his Myspace page. Not only is the dude playing every Monday in April at Nectar, he's also playing every Tuesday at Mississippi Studios in Portland, Oregon.
He's a residency maniac, that DKD. Tour itinerary after jump...

Hillary Is The New Madonna
Posted April 4 at 11:42 am by Brian J Barr

Bitch is the new black; Hillary is the new Madonna. Better yet...the two are related! I didn't need another reason to vote for Clinton, but if this means the two joining Rick Rubin in the studio to record a cover of Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down", I'm all about it!

Billboard On Vedder's Secret Shows
Posted March 27 at 1:07 pm by Brian J Barr
In case you were one of the many unlucky who didn't get to witness Eddie Vedder's intimate Kenyon Hall solo shows in West Seattle, Billboard's got a great review. The bastard played Cat Stevens' "If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out" and Petty's "Won't Back Down". Once again, if you wanted to feel even shittier about either not hearing about it, or not being able to attend...tickets were $5.

Another Saturday Knight(s) (Post)
Posted March 20 at 3:00 pm by Brian J Barr
Remember a few weeks back, I blogged about running into Tilson of the Saturday Knights on 45th. He was driving, I was waiting for the bus, and he leaned his head out the window of his Land Rover and said the new TSK album was done!
Well, Pitchfork's got some goods here on the album, which is called Mingle. If you've ever met the Saturday Knights, you'd know they are some dudes who know how to do just that...mingle. Especially Tilson. And it appears they used their social skills to rope in some heavies for this record, including guitar hero Kim Thayil, Sharon Jones' Dap-Kings, and Jim Horn and the Muscle Shoals Horns (!!!!!!).
And for those of you who couldn't get enough of "45", it's the track that will open Mingle. Due June 24. Just. In Time. For. Summer!

Would You Kill Your Spouse Over Bruce Springsteen?
Posted March 18 at 10:30 am by Brian J Barr
How much do you love Bruce Springsteen? I mean...do you love The Boss so much that you'd stab your husband in the chest and kill him when he told you he didn't like New Jersey's favorite son? Would you go to jail for eight years because you love Springsteen that much? How much of a fan are you? Think about it...
