Beck, STP, Neko Case, M. Ward Booked For Bumbershoot

beck.jpg
Beck will be riding the Ferris Wheel at the Seattle Center this Labor Day Weekend.

Bumbershoot
Where: Seattle Center
When: Aug. 30 to Sept. 1
Tickets: 3-day passes available now for $80

I'm actually beyond excited about this. Beck hasn't played Bumbershoot since 1997 (my first year at the fest), and I still remember it as my favorite Bumbershoot performance yet. Though, my friends who were at The Fastbacks during that same time slot, swear I made the wrong decision.

More artists to be announced in mid July. We'll keep y'all posts on all the gossip between now and then.
Some of the Acts:
Beck, Stone Temple Pilots, Lucinda Williams, Neko Case, Ingrid Michaelson, Del Tha Funky Homosapien, Jakob Dylan, !!!, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Saul Williams, Joe Bonamassa, M. Ward, The Walkmen, Asylum St. Spankers, Dan Deacon, MIDIval PunditZ, Blitzen Trapper, Bedouin Soundclash, Tim Finn, Dale Watson, John Vanderslice, Final Fantasy, The Fall of Troy, Orgone, Forro in the Dark, Ryan Bingham, Wreckless Eric & Amy Rigby, Arthur & Yu, Darondo and Nino Moschella, Pacifika and many more to be announced.

More acts after the jump.

More From the press release:

Of course, the Festival features much more than music””it's home to 20 unique venues and a full range of arts including comedy, regional theatre (co-curated by Theatre Puget Sound), the 1 Reel Film Festival (curated by the Seattle International Film Festival), Flatstock, the Indie Market, and the ever popular Literary, Performance, and Visual Arts programs.
LITERARY ARTS

This year's Literary Arts program welcomes graphic novelists Dan Clowes and Adrian Tomine, sci-fi legend William Gibson, a special edition of Starlee Kine and Arthur Jones' Post-It Note Reading Series, authors Nathan McCall, Francesca Lia-Block, Kevin Sessums, and more.
VISUAL ARTS

The Visual Arts' exhibits will showcase the Gage Academy's Drawing Jam (giving attendees a taste of the classical art studio); "The Power of One," a monumental photo and multimedia exhibit that explores the ways individuals make an impact in society (be it war, peace, environment, etc) curated by Marita Holdaway of Benham Gallery; a collection of local and national contemporary video work from The Henry Art Gallery (including work by performance artists Grand Openings from New York); a special "One Pot" residency and exhibit from food adventurer Michael Hebberoy; and The Seattle-Tehran Poster Show (a reprisal of last year's hit Seattle-Havana Poster Show that's now installed in the National Gallery in Havana).
SPECTACLE & INSTALLATION

The Festival's penchant for playful performance continues with Strange Fruit, a performing arts company that hails from Melbourne, Australia, fusing theatre, dance and circus, perched atop 12-foot poles. A bit closer to home (and the ground) will be an outdoor table as part of the One Pot residency, and site-specific installations by regional artists.
DANCE & PERFORMANCE

Bumbershoot is proud to present a brand new collaboration between San Francisco-based choreographer Joe Goode and New York-based puppeteer Basil Twist. The performance, called "Wonderboy," features a distinctive blend of dance and theatre; it debuts this summer at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Performing Arts and then travels to Bumbershoot. Also on the program are performances from the Pacific Northwest Ballet and a slate of regional and national performance companies.

COMEDY

When we expanded our comedy program to three stages last year, we wondered if we were crazy. Apparently not””all three venues, including the new Northwest comedy stage at the Vera Project, were huge crowd favorites, each featuring the freshest comedians from around the nation and here at home. The three stages will return in 2008 with a complete comic lineup to be announced this summer.
TICKETS

If you slept through the BumberFan Insider Deal on 3-day passes, that's OK! You can buy advance 3-day passes now. Single day-specific tickets will be available Tuesday, July 15. For more ticket information, visit bumbershoot.org/tickets.htm.

Oh, and as a BumberFan, you can expect another Insider Deal””a discount on single day-specific tickets for BumberFans only””in the months to come. Stay tuned for more good news!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MONTELL JORDAN-Live in Concert

(Cedarwood Dome, Milton, WA) – MONTELL JORDAN, Live in Concert, ONE NIGHT ONLY! Saturday, June 28th 9p…Dinner, Concert, and After Party ALL under one roof @ The Cedarwood Dome in Milton, WA. MJ will be headlining the stage w/ his hit singles “This Is How We Do It”, “Get It On…Tonite”, “Fallin”, “I Like” and his latest release, “I Wanna Get To Know You”…From his long awaited album “Let It Rain”, In stores Summer 2008!

For multi-platinum Recording Artist Montell Jordan, the journey that launched his much anticipated seventh album- the soul stirring LET IT RAIN -began in a much different place. “It began in front of the mirror”, says the charismatic singer/songwriter. “This is definitely the first time I have given so much of my soul on an album. I had to fall in love with the music again, and this time it was a personal journey. I’ve been all over the world: Africa, Cuba, Ireland, Asia, Greece, Croatia- you name it. I’ve been on hundreds of stages, and won my share of awards. But now I realized that in all my travels I was really searching for me-the real Montell Jordan.”
Make no mistake-Montell’s new album may delve into more intimate storylines, but the torrid slabs of pulse pounding beats like the title track Let It Rain—proclaim loud and clear that the emotive, one-man arsenal has never been tighter. “That song was written as I experienced some trials over the last couple of years, but the theme proclaims that against all odds, everything is still going to be alright.” This sizzling cut ensures that ‘Mr. Jordan’ is going to be just fine. Montell has truly grown and learned a great deal since the LIFE AFTER DEF album, and through enduring life’s unpredictable circumstances and a lot of soul searching, he declares “I’ve found myself and my love for music again.“

“In the past, I wrote a lot about external situations. I always worried about what my audience wanted to hear. For the first time, I didn’t go outside my own life for the narrative. Powerful songs like Left Alone and Not No More are painful tales I endured that made me even stronger. On Left Alone, I metaphorically place the music industry as the woman in our broken relationship, and then detail our ups and downs and ultimately my desire to be reunited with her.”

On this upcoming 7th album titled LET IT RAIN , Jordan’s poignant and cleverly written songs are a great set-up to take the world by storm. “I’ve come along way,” says Montell. “I didn’t want to do music again until I was ready to love it again. I think the journey I have been on over the last couple of years has taught me to love my family, my life, my music and most of all myself. I found the passion again, and combined with my life experiences I will share I think this album is going to take me and the world on a musical journey beyond our wildest imaginations.”

THIS IS HOW WE DO IT was a mixture of slick beats and street-infectious wordplay that has changed the R&B landscape. It was the first Def Jam album to hit #1 on the Top Album Chart, holding the top spot for almost two months. The runaway smash single This Is How We Do It celebrated South Central LA’s street vibe, and quickly became a precursor for the grittier, hip-hop tinged R&B that would soon follow and dominate the charts by the end of the 90’s. Montell followed up his debut success with the platinum selling album MORE that included the hit single I Like (which was also featured on the sound track for Eddie Murphy’s “The Nutty Professor”.) Successful tours with superstars such as Boyz II Men, TLC, Mary J. Blige, and The Isley Brothers also established Montell as a potent live artist. He then unleashed his eclectic, dirty south driven LET’S RIDE, which included the hit title cut of the same name, garnering platinum sales. The multi-textured album reflected Montell’s hearty appetite for collaboration, and featured Redman, Master P and many others. The album also showcased Montell’s gift of balladry with an ode to his daughter Sydney on the tender Missing You. Montell also found time to co-write and produce the genre leaping smash hits, Nobody’s Supposed to be Here for Deborah Cox and Incomplete for Sisqo. Those songs took both of those stars to multi platinum record sales and further established Montell as both an urban poet and pop force to be reckoned with. He has produced for such artists as Whitney Houston, Deborah Cox, Sisqo, Dru Hill, Tamia, Kelly Price, Boyz II Men and many others.
A superstar at the crossroads is the stuff legends are made of. For Montell- who now resides in Atlanta, GA, he wouldn’t have it any other way. Expect greatness from Montell on this album, as it also includes one of his personal favorite songs ever recorded, titled Comatose. It’s the last song on LET IT RAIN, and MJ purposely placed it at the end of the album as a bonus for all his fans who want to know where he is taking them next. But if these songs are any indication of where he is headed you can bet it will be back to the top of the charts.
Celebrating music, maturity and urban expression, there is no other way to kick off summer than w/ Montell Jordan-Live in Concert, Saturday, June 28th, ’08. Tickets are On Sale NOW @ www.brownpapertickets.com/event/33229.
