Pete Holmes Wants to Make Sure Seattle Has Enough Licensed Pot Dispensers

In a letter addressed to the Washington State Liquor Control Board Thursday, Seattle City Attorney Pete Holmes asked the state agency tasked with implementing a recreational marijuana market in Washington to make sure Seattle gets enough licenses to meet the city’s demand for weed.

In the letter Holmes writes: “If there are not enough I-502 licensed dispensers to meet demand, we are concerned that the illegal market will fill in the gaps and defeat the purposes of establishing a taxed and regulated recreational marijuana market.”

“To that end,” the letter continues, “we ask that the Board carefully monitor supply and demand for recreational marijuana as soon as the licensed dispensers begin sales and consider issuing additional licenses later in 2014 for dispensers in Seattle if the 21 initial licenses are insufficient to meet demand in our city.”
