This U District cafe is collegiate, but not Animal House collegiate. Its pea-green walls and mismatched furniture set the scene for a thriving community of thinkers, talkers, and typers. Caffeinated intellectuals expound passionately on biochemistry or Nietzsche over orange-poppyseed bread. Rustic tomato-basil soup and crispy grilled-cheese sandwiches on sourdough provide sustenance for conversational exertion, while grad students quench the smoke pouring from their brains with glasses of Chardonnay.
