Electric Avenue

Extra Info

Capitol Hill Arts Center , free Every week Friday, 10:00pm

In the dance-music community, venues change and weeklies come and go, and the rare few—like the Saturday night drum and bass party Onset, in Pioneer Square—last a whole year, let alone Onset’s six. So kudos to the one-year anniversary of United House Front and CHAC’s Electric Avenue! Aping Green Velvet’s all-encompassing motto, “We like Electro. We like Retro. We like Ghetto. House. And Techno,” they’ve exemplified a musical open mind in their bookings. And also some street smarts: for every special booking—like Miami bass/breakbeat DJ and tonight’s headliner Deekline—that costs five or ten bucks, the other three bookings each month are both free and solid, with locals like Charlie B., Jizosh, Swank, and Sun Tzu Sound on the roster. CHAC’s Lower Level is also one of the more comfortable rooms to let loose in, and its walls aren’t being painted white (Hi, Baltic Room) anytime soon. Capitol Hill Arts Center, Lower Level, 1621 12th Ave., 388 - 0521. $10. 10 p.m. RACHEL SHIMP
