As with every year, this weekend’s Fremont Fair and Saturday’s Solstice Parade, in particular, appeared to swell from the year before.
There were more naked bike riders, more puppets, and a flood of onlookers. Some of this might be due to the fact that the Fair added big-time headliners to its main music stages—the biggest change from years’ past—but more than likely, the people came to the Center of the Universe to bask in the brilliant summer sun that washed over the neighborhood for the duration of the weekend.
We were there to capture the spirit of the Solstice Parade, from burlesque dancers trading in the nightclub lights for that big ball of light in the sky to brassy and blurting marching bands to, yes, those nude cyclists screaming down the street, welcoming in the summer with style, and a lot of company.
