Chicken Coop Tours for Backyard Farmers, Summer School for Chocolate Lovers

These backyard chickens aren’t headed for animal shelters anytime soon: Seattle Tilth is hosting its yearly Chicken Coop & Urban Farm Tour this Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. On top of showcasing several thriving city farms that offer examples of simple and elaborate coops, the self-guided tour includes info on milking goats, keeping rabbits and housing honey bees.

In other news, salted butter toffee class is in session this evening at Theo Chocolate. It’s the latest course in the Fremont-based chocolatier’s Chocolate University Summer School series. For $35, students watch a demo, practice dipping techniques and depart with hunks of fresh toffee. Tonight’s class at 3400 Phinney Ave. N. runs from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and caps at 20 people. Call (206) 632-5100 to see if space remains.
