1. Madrona wine oasis Bottlehouse is hosting a “high/low backyard BBQ bash” Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. with plenty of Rainier beer, a range of Reisling wines, Bottlehouse sliders, and live music from Hall Pass Band. Tickets are $22 in advance (by calling 206.708.7164) or $25 at the door.
2. On Sunday in the Chinatown-International District, festival goers will gather for the Celebrate Little Saigon event. According to a press release, “Local restaurants and retail shops in Little Saigon (1200 South Jackson Street) will bring their businesses outside their doors so attendees can stroll through the neighborhood and soak in Vietnamese culture without leaving Seattle.” You’ll be able to sample Vietnamese dishes like banh mi sandwiches, spring rolls, and more, and Tamarind Tree restaurant will hold cooking demos. There’s also a pho noodle eating contest at 2:30 at the Main Stage. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is free to attend.
3. Ivar’s Salmon House and Mukilteo Landing landed spots in OpenTable’s Diners’ Choice Awards for the Top 100 Scenic View Restaurants in America. In honor of the win, Ivar’s is putting on a Facebook photo contest through September 5. Submit your original photos capturing summer in Washington for a chance to win a $100 gift card to any Ivar’s restaurant. More details are available on Facebook.
4. A Toronto bakery created a $900 cupcake topped with 24-karat gold flakes for a customer wanting a special way to honor his wife on her birthday. Cupcakes are great and all, but my first thought was, “Just give me the cash instead!”
