Cult wines arise for a number of reasons. Sometimes it’s because they’re made in very small quantities by well-known winemakers. Other times it’s a labor of love from an obscure genius. Honestly, sometimes it’s just clever marketing. The Red Table Wine from Result of a Crush is a little bit of all three. First off, it’s a non-vintage wine (a wine made from grapes from multiple years) in a market that associates a vintage designation with quality. Second, the name and label are more evocative of a wine that someone bought because the bottle was cute. Yet the price point ($25) and the story behind the wine (made by the sisters of famed consulting winemaker Matt Reynvaan, allegedly with some of the same fruit he puts in his highly-coveted Rhône-style wines) belie its “cult” status. It also happens to be extremely delicious, showing luscious red fruit and savory aromatics with the combination of luscious mouthfeel and pleasing acidity that the better Walla Walla wines show, vintages be damned.
