Our Jess on the Radio

Voracious regular Jess Thomson will be on KUOW's Sound Focus today at approximately 2:50 p.m. to talk about what to cook with your razor clams, since the spring season has just begun. Having gone razor-clamming with Jess last winter, I can attest that not only is she a great cook but a crack digger. (I, on the other hand, caught five in two hours.)

You can listen to the live webcast here.

Maggie's on the Radio Tomorrow

Tomorrow — Saturday, Dec. 15 — Maggie Dutton, our estimable drinks columnist, is going to talk to Tom Douglas and Thierry Rautureau again on 710 KIRO's Seattle Kitchen radio show. She'll be on at 5 p.m. to talk about her participation (via her blog, Wine Offensive) in Menu For Hope IV, a fundraiser in which food bloggers from around the world raffle off prizes to raise money for the United Nations World Food Programme.

Listen to her via Webcast here.

Food Blog Awards Nominations Are Out

So the Well Fed Network has just announced its nominations for the 2007 Food Blog Awards, and a few local favorites have made the cut:

This is the It year for the Gluten-Free Girl, Shauna James Ahern. Not only is her new book winning rave reviews, but her blog has been nominated in the "Post," "Writing," and "Food Blog of the Year" categories.

Competing against her in the "Post" category (though I'm not quite sure what that means) is Orangette, whose author, Molly Wizenberg, is working on her own book deal.

And I'm delighted to announce that Voracious contributor Jess Thomson's blog, Hogwash, is nominated in the "Best New Blog" category. Jess is a great writer of both recipes and commentary, and she set herself the task this year of writing one recipe a day for 365 fricken days. Check out her blog and egg her on as she hunts down ideas to make it through her last two weeks.

Voting will last until 9:00 a.m. PST this Friday. Congratulations to all, and let me know if I missed any other local bloggers.

Food Writers Read for Peace (or something like that)

seattle_invite.jpg

Jess Thomson, who we at Voracious pretend to claim as our own but who writes about food for many publications, is one of eight Seattle food writers who will read from their work Tuesday, November 13, at Talking With Your Mouth Full, an evening sponsored by Leite's Culinaria, the online equivalent of Saveur magazine. (The proceeds will go toward a scholarship to fund professional development for food writers.)

The reading will take place at the Hugo House from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., and if if the stories leave you ravenous, you can drive to the Palace Ballroom afterward, where Tom Douglas will cook a meal inspired by the stories.

The cost is $12 for the reading ($10 for Hugo House members) and $50 for the dinner. The catch: You have to make reservations now, because the seats are almost full. Check the website for full info.

UPDATE: Event organizers say that they won't accept any dinner reservations tomorrow, so you'd have to make yours today.

I'm on the radio, too

Tripe.GIF

Honeycomb tripe, mmmm.

Well, Maggie had her day on the radio last week, and this week it's my turn. I'm going to be calling in to Tom Douglas's Seattle Kitchen on KIRO 710 AM tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. to talk to Tom and Thierry Rautureau about an appropriate Halloween foodstuff: guts.

Well, offal. And why and where you should eat it.

You can listen live on the radio or through the miracle of Web streaming.

Maggie's on the Radio Saturday, October 20

I don't know what you're doing on Saturday afternoon, but while I'm scrubbing out the seams in my hardwood floors, writing to my state representatives about upcoming bills, and cooking a seven-course meal, I'm going to have the radio on, tuned to Tom Douglas's Seattle Kitchen on KIRO 710 AM (from 4 to 7 p.m.).

That's because our own Maggie Dutton will be appearing to talk to Tom and cohost Thierry Rautureau about hard cider, which she recently wrote about here and here. You can listen live online from the KIRO710 Web page (linked above), but you'll have to sign up. Bonus: Listen to Maggie's last appearance on the show here.
