Canal Street Coffee
Posted Dec. 13, 2006 at 11:32 am by Molly LoriTwo doors down from my favorite language escuela, Seattle Language Academy (just off the Burke-Gilman in Fremont), is the brand new Canal Street Coffee. It's a former house that's now painted in yellow and raspberry sherbet tones. Inside, the space is super clean and white. They serve Bellingham-based Tony's coffee and, as of yesterday, the usual array of pastries. The art on display was funky/cool and I loved the salvaged train announcement board upon which the drink options were written.

This is from an email I sent to my coworkers after visiting this very cafe about 1.5 hrs ago...
I just got back from the newest coffee place this side of Caf� Ladro with friend and coworker Nathan Decker. I�m not sure if many of you know about this place, but it�s been open for about a week now. It�s a block south of 36th street right off the canal. It�s a bright peach/pink building.
The coffee is decent, the setting and lighting is perfect for those afternoon meetings or anti-ADD work sessions. The barista is friendly and informative�you can even learn all about the water based decaffeination process while you wait. Oh and I should mention that they have WI-FI which is UNLIMITED�that�s right no more 1 HR restrictions like you find at Ladro.
My prediction is that this place will be the caf� to be come summer because of the spacious outdoor decks, superb views, and direct sunlight�just wait 7 more gloomy months�imagine yourself soaking up some warm spring rays with a cup of your favorite brew in your hand, a good friend, and some warm conversation. The barista was very friendly and made me a great mocha with an organic chocolate called Dagoba (which tastes great!) They also carry Naked Juice and Essential Bakery pasties. I also found out that all of there hot water is solar powered and they ran the lines under the floors to heat the place too, so thats pretty cool. I seriously recommend checking this place out.

I have not been there yet, but have heard nothing but good things about this new place! I'm currently living out of state until Summer 2007, but get back that way every few months. Next trip back to Seattle, I'll check this place out. I kind of like eclectic places that have uniqueness and character, instead of that mega fast-food's of coffees, "Barstrucks" . Added bonus, I like old "Iron Horse" remnants of the industrial revolution. Something for everyone it sounds like!
