Your Daily Dose of Food News, Events and Must-Read Miscellany

1. Kraken Congee is hosting a viewing party for the premiere of CNBC reality show Restaurant Startup, on which the Kraken gents are competing for investor funding. The premier event takes place on July 8 at 8 p.m. at the Belltown Pub. The Facebook announcement says there “might even have some Pork Belly Adobo congee available.”

2. Baker extraordinaire Laura Pyles is cooking up a breakfast-for-dinner event at Ballard’s Porkchop & Co tonight from 5 to 10 p.m. Choose from enticing-sounding treats like Belgian waffles with cheese and bacon butter biscuits with bacon gravy and “monster sticky buns.”

3. Bluebird’s Fremont soda fountain opened Friday and Eater Seattle has a look inside the space, where you’ll find “soda jerks making floats, shakes, and sundaes behind a salvaged and restored pharmacy soda counter.”

4. We’re all guilty of tossing out spoiled food; luckily in Seattle we can compost.
