10 Cent Cokes at Dick’s, Elysian’s Super Bowl Bet with a Colorado Brewery, and More Food News

Your Daily Dose of Food News, Events and Must-Read Miscellany

1. Dick’s is selling Coke for 10 cents from open to close today at all locations. Later tonight, Dicks’ last 60th Birthday Party of the year happens at its Queen Anne store. The 7:00 to 9:30 pm event includes live music and the crowning of “Dick’s Deluxe Fan.” Check Facebook for details.

2. Seattle-based Elysian Brewing just made a Super Bowl wager with Colorado’s West Flanders Brewing. The terms? The head brewer for the winning city’s team (Seattle) flies to the losing team’s city (Boulder) on the loser’s dime. The winners take over the loser’s crew and equipment to brew a beer of their own choosing. On tapping day, the losing brewery displays the (Seahawks) flag for a couple for weeks, or until the tap runs dry. Elysian co-founder David Buhler “cannot wait to see the Seahawks flag raised in Colorado.” He says the game will be epic, but in the end, “...the Hawks secondary is going to dismantle Manning and our offense will be in Beast mode.”

3. Capitol Hill’s Poquitos and Von Trapp’s are two of a slew of venues hosting parties for the Big Game on Sunday. If you’re into mixed drinks, Poquitos will serve a blue 12th Man Margarita for $7 and show the match in its bar and heated patio. Von Trapp’s is pouring half liters of Bayern VT lager for $4 and serving tailgate-style football pretzels, chili cheese dogs and hot wings.

4. Eater is streaming video of a tailgate party for the NPR set, courtesy of Portlandia. Puree Home Comp-Onion soup, anyone?
