1. Taste of Check Please, Northwest happens this evening at the Space Needle. Samples from restaurants included in the first season of the KCTS9 show will be featured, including Barrio, Mekong Village and the venerable Beths’ Cafe. Details are over here.

2. More than 50 artisans and pastry chefs will serve copious amounts of specialty chocolate at this weekend’s Northwest Chocolate Festival. Tickets are online.

3. This Sunday’s Ethan Stowell Charity Cook-Off is all about fried chicken. Home cooks will compete against pros, including Tricia Marino from Stoneburner, Dan Braun from Oliver’s Twist and John Henderson from the Huxley Wallace Collective. Guests receive a scorecard and a whole lot of fried chicken, slaw, potato salad, mac and cheese and beer. Cost for the 6:00 pm event is $50, with proceeds benefiting the Fetal Health Foundation. 4. A reminder that Fremont’s Oktoberfest starts Friday, with food from The Grilled Cheese Experience, Crepealicious and Pel’Meni Dumpling Czar. You’ll need a ticket to enter the Tasting Garden, where you’ll find more than 100 beers samples and the Buxom Beer Garden.
