Local writer and bartender Mark Sexauer is launching his new book Aphrodisiacs with a Twist tonight at Batch 206 Distillery. The hardcover title contains more than 100 drink recipes from the former Barrio and Artusi mixologist, ranging from basic two-ingredient cocktails to instructions on how to make homemade bitters. Drinks in the collection are indexed by their aphrodisiac quality (with sexy photos to boot.) The event at 1417 Elliott Ave. W. lasts from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and is free, but an online RSVP is required.
In other news, James Weimann and Deming Maclise’s Stoneburner opens tomorrow on the ground floor of the new Hotel Ballard at 5214 Ballard Ave. NW. If the duo’s other ventures (Bastille, Poquitos, Macleod’s Scottish Pub, Von Trapp’s) are any indication, Stoneburner will be a looker. The 120-seat restaurant’s decor includes an antique pressed tin ceiling sourced from a former schoolhouse and an old streetlight from San Francisco. Stoneburner’s Mediterranean-inspired menu is divvied up into sections including snacks, greens, beans and grains, and mains: highlights include the spicy lamb meatball, kale and provolone pizza and chard and sheep’s milk ricotta ravioli
Stoneburner opens its doors with limited 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. lunch-only hours this week and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. brunch this Saturday. Regular service starts July 1 and includes daily lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.
