Bugs Bunny Cartoons

You can’t go wrong with Warner Bros.’ classic Loony Tunes series. Titles this week include the immortal What’s Opera Doc?, which puts Wagner through the comic wringer–and puts Elmer Fudd in the warrior’s horned helmet. (“Kill the Wabbit, Kill the Wabbit…”) One dozen short titles are included in each program, which also features the opera spoof “The Rabbit of Seville.” Here, the source text (or score) is by Rossini, and the arias are no less enchanting. Mel Blanc supplies the voice of Bugs, while Arthur Q. Bryan lisps his way through Fudd’s character. Most titles date from the golden ’50s, with animation by Tex Avery and Robert McKimson. The series is a treat for those who watched the originals on Saturday morning TV, and their kids who today only know the cartoons from DVD and YouTube. (NR). BRIAN MILLER
