I Got Marijuana From Nice Guys

The first thing I wondered about Nice Guys -- open in Tacoma since last June -- was "Is this a medical-marijuana dispensary?" My uncertainty was due largely to the puzzling sign above the storefront: "Nice Guys Management." Unsure where "Management" fit in--unless maybe it meant pain management? -- I went inside after spotting a reassuring green cross on the window. That almost always means you're at the right place.

The only patient in the shop, my authorization was quickly confirmed. The bud room was medium-sized as bud rooms go, with sativas and hybrid strains in one glass display case, indicas in another. I was pleased to note that everything, flower-wise, went for the same donation level: $10 a gram across the board.

Knowledgeable budtender Jermaine helped me explore the flower selection, offering useful feedback from his personal experience and from that of other patients. The sativa/hybrid case held about 10 strains, half of them sativas, and the indica case had about 10 more. Four varieties of medibles were on top of the indica case -- unlabeled as to manufacturer, ingredients, or potency, but they looked good (and as it turned out, tasted good and worked well).

Acid Diesel: a cerebral, energetic, and uplifting high

I selected one sativa strain, Acid Diesel, and an indica-dominant, Tahoe Kush, for sampling, based upon their looks and bouquet. Acid Diesel is a powerful variant of the popular Sour Diesel/New York City Diesel family, giving a cerebral, energetic, and uplifting high. Smoke some Acid Diesel in the morning and you'll be nausea-free for hours.

Tahoe Kush, though considered a member of the indica-dominant Kush family, reputedly contains 50 percent sativa genetics. Its bright-green, trichome-stacked, swollen calyxes glisten with heady promise and have a sweet-edged, fuelish, lemon-tinged odor. Toking reveals the lemon terpenes more fully, along with the expected diesel and a lingering, pleasant aftertaste.

Tahoe results almost immediately in pronounced relaxation; you can feel tension leaving your body with each toke. A pleasantly warm numbness suffuses the limbs as a calm reverie fills the brain. This strain is great for pain, depression, anxiety, and stomach ailments; it was originally bred for AIDS patients and those suffering from breakthrough pain. It is also reportedly quite effective for those withdrawing from chemical dependency on either pharmaceuticals or street drugs.

Concentrates, including Rick Simpson Oil, bubble hash, butane hash oil, and "Thai sticks" (cannabis flowers double-dipped in hash oil) are available, as are four flavors of tincture and one cannabis-infused topical lotion for muscle pains.

New patients at Nice Guys get to pick either a free prerolled joint or a medible, a $5 value. Easy parking is available directly in front of the shop.
