According to police, the call came just after noon on Monday. Kmart employees from the 132nd and Aurora Avenue N store had opened a box that was mysteriously delivered to their store only to discover the aforementioned treasure - 10 pounds of strangely wrapped ganja that was supposed to end up in Philadelphia. Police say the package was originally mailed from Los Angeles, with an intended destination of Philly, but got mixed up along the way. For some reason the box's sender used the address for the Aurora Kmart on the return label, and one thing led to another.
Police say the weed was seized and placed it into evidence.
According to SPD, the case has been referred to agency's narcotics unit and there's no information yet on where things will go from here. Given the fact the weed was apparently mailed across state lines, it seems reasonable to wonder whether a federal crime has occurred. A spokesperson for SPD says detectives frequently work closely with the feds and "anything's possible."
Given the fact that Daily Weekly readers love Kmart and weed, it's no surprise that the post was one of yesterday's most popular. It also inspired a bit of commentary from a couple commenters.
As commenter flyfisherkevin notes:
I'm sure the price for pot at Kmart is higher than the price at Walmart!
