Despite the fact it was nothing more than a guttural reaction to an Associated Press story, yesterday our take on the 9-year-old Mexican girl who recently gave birth quickly went viral - garnering thousands and thousands of pageviews in a matter of hours. And, not surprisingly, it also garnered a few comments.
As the post noted:
According to the Associated Press, a 9-year-old girl from Mexico recently gave birth at a hospital in the city of Guadalajara. The good news is the baby and her young mother are reportedly doing well. The bad news is authorities are still searching for the 17-year-old suspected father.
As the AP reports:
[Jalisco state police spokesman Lino] Gonzalez said Wednesday that the girl's family alerted authorities after she gave birth and the alleged father has not been seen since in the neighborhood the both live in. He says that if the teenager's paternity is proven he could face child sex abuse charges.
Gonzalez says the girl told authorities the teenager was her boyfriend.
This story literally gives new meaning to the phrase "babies having babies."
Here's commenter rjw2477's take:
Teenage pregnacy in this county are at the lowest levels since they started records in the 50's. Not sure about Mexico. And, I'm not sure about child pregnacy either, but this is just rape, even if she said he's a boyfriend. 9yr olds don't have the capacities to make those decisions, a 17 yr old does. He will get it in a Mexican prison from big boy Julio "Bubba" La Queeny.
