Official word broke yesterday that Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn will make an announcement today about his "political plans." While, naturally, in announcing the news the Seattle Times stated the obvious - that McGinn is expected to officially launch his 2013 campaign for reelection - let's not pass up a chance for rampant speculation.

Sure, McGinn will probably announce this afternoon that he intends to run for reelection; after all, a late-night press release from his campaign consultant John Wyble confirms McGinn plans to make an announcement about his intentions in the upcoming mayoral race at 12:30 p.m. at the Filipino Community Center on Martin Luther King Junior Way South. But there are other possibilities too, right?

Like:

McGinn could be selling his bike. That'd be worth a press conference and could definitely impact the mayoral race.

McGinn could be moving to Portland: He wouldn't be the first.

McGinn could be retiring from politics to play for the reborn Sonics: I hear he has a wicked jumper.

McGinn could be announcing he's signed an endorsement deal with Just For Men Mustache & Beard Brush-In Color Gel: It would have been messed up to write this post without a beard joke.

McGinn could ask for campaign donations: Only $17 more and he's got enough to ride the Seattle Great Wheel.

McGinn could be endorsing Ed Murray for mayor: Or maybe that dude with the bow tie? Or maybe even that dude that smacked Paul Schell with a megaphone?

McGinn could be releasing a dash-cam video: Maybe he's got Egan envy?

McGinn could be coming out in support of John Roderick's beard advice: It was pretty awesome.

McGinn could just want to talk about Django Unchained: The Mayor and Spike Lee have a lot in common.

McGinn could be announcing that he plans to try out for Phoenix Jones' crack crime-fighting team: Hopefully he's got a bulletproof vest and a CPR card.
