On Thursday felony child endangerment charges were filed against a mother and her boyfriend in Lake Stevens after the couple allegedly smoked meth with the woman's 11-month-old daughter present inside a Ford Explorer. The baby has been taken in by Child Protective Services and an investigation has been ongoing as to the extent of which the baby and the woman's other two children have been exposed to the drug.

Marysville police were originally called to the scene on December 7 when reports came in about a man and a woman possibly smoking meth inside the Explorer and a young child being exposed to second-hand smoke. When officers did arrive to the scene, they found the couple in the vehicle with the girl and meth pipes present.

According to police at the scene, the mother reportedly showed signs of being on the drug while her daughter looked cold and hungry.

As an article on Everett's The Daily Herald's website notes:

"She appeared to be high, also known as tweaking, on methamphetamine with sudden jerky movements, unable to concentrate, repeating herself and very constricted pupils even though she had been sitting in the dark," the officer wrote in court papers.

The baby had on a shirt and diaper, but no pants, socks or shoes. The child was crying and appeared to be cold and hungry, court papers said. It was 38 degrees outside and the vehicle was without heat because it was out of gas so the heater couldn't be used. There was no blanket in the vehicle to keep the baby warm.

Both individuals allegedly told police that they were smoking meth that evening, even though the man denied that smoking was occurring inside the car.

Interestingly enough this may not have been the first time one of the 22-year-old mother's kids have been exposed to methamphetamine. According to police the woman supposedly admitted that all three children have been exposed to second-hand meth smoke and that she is addicted to the drug, even noting her addiction makes her an unfit mother. The 35-year-old boyfriend also allegedly told the cops that it was wrong for them to endanger the child like that.

An added element to the case is that the pair is reportedly in an incestuous relationship in which both individuals have the same mother but different fathers. The couple allegedly told officials the relationship has been occurring for a half year.

Currently the couple is in a county jail in Everett on $150,000 bail and prosecutors are trying to get court orders to prohibit the two from seeing the mother's three children.
