Yesterday on The Daily Weekly Ellis Conklin told you all about a man hit by a Metro bus Tuesday morning who proceeded to walk into a nearby Starbucks and order a drip coffee. It wasn't a joke. The man was described as bloody and dazed. And later, Seattle Police announced that the bus driver showed signs of being drunk and/or stoned.
As Conklin's post noted:
At around 7:30 this morning, a man came staggering into the Starbucks at 4th and Pine. He'd just been hit by a bus and his head was bleeding profusely. Fortunately, he had a enough sense to order a tall drip and not squander his money on an over-priced double tall vanilla latte.
"He seemed a little confused," recounts shift supervisor Tony Farrell. "He was bleeding quite a lot, and it took a fair amount of time to clean things up after he was taken away by paramedics. At least he was talking. That's a good sign."
Numerous Daily Weekly commenters expressed sympathy for the man, including one who was apparently on the scene and applauded the efforts of bystanders.
As commenter Jennifer Ennie Brosius writes:
Poor guy. Totally operating on auto-pilot...after exiting my bus at the big 3rd St. tangle, I watched through the window of the Starbucks as the EMTs checked him out and loaded him onto a gurney. He just looked so zoned out, bloodied. I hope his injuries aren't severe, but judging from the damage to the bus windshield... Glad the Starbucks employee spoke up. I also want to put in a good word for all of the bystanders. I must have passed a dozen different people who offered to help him, and were keeping an eye on where he was headed...trying to get assistance...not just ignored.
