Yesterday I took to The Daily Weekly to note the recent arrest of a family accused of stealing bags off the luggage carousel at Portland International Airport. I wrote that the family was doing its part to help keep Portland weird.
That's because a Portland man stands accused of attempting to strangle his girlfriend with his dreadlocks early Monday morning. No seriously. Police say it was a domestic violence attack that's left 32-year-old Caleb Grotberg facing assault, kidnapping, attempted assault, menacing and strangulation charges.
As Portland's KGW reports, Grotberg's girlfriend told police that he attacked her just after 2 a.m. Monday at a Southeast Portland residence. The description she provided to police of Grotberg - surely something along the lines of "He looks like the kind of dirty hippie who'd strangle his girlfriend with dreadlocks" - helped law enforcement track down the alleged abuser soon thereafter.
According to KGW:
The woman was taken to a Portland hospital with "numerous, non-life threatening injuries," according to Sgt. Pete Simpson with the Portland Police Bureau.
Grotberg was booked into the Multnomah County Jail following his arrest and is scheduled to be arraigned today.
