Last week on The Daily Weekly Matt Driscoll wrote about the situation surrounding a 19-year-old Seattle University student from Saudi Arabia who was allegedly extorted by 28-year-old Adam C. Blazak at Hotel Five. As noted in Driscoll's first piece on the subject, according to law enforcement authorities the 19-year-old went to Hotel Five after seeing a CraigsList ad offering sex with a 14-year-old girl. But when he arrived, Blazak - who'd placed the bogus ad and was imperssonating a federal agent - attacked and handcuffed him ... before agreeing to release him for $191 and a pair of sunglasses.
While Blazak has been charged with extortion, the Seattle U student was taken to the precinct by police but released without being booked. However, according to the King Count Prosecutor's Office, the possiblity of charges still remain; the case is under review.
As noted in the post:
"It looks like the way we wrote it up he was pretty much considered a victim in this case," Jamieson continues, saying the 19-year-old Seattle U student was "probably in police presence for an hour or so" before his release.
"He was the victim of the extortion," Jamieson says.
Noting that the 19-year-old Seattle U student was never booked into jail on criminal charges, King County Prosecutor's Office Press Secretary Dan Donohoe confirms that the police report has been forwarded to the Prosecutor's Office, and says "There's still an ongoing investigation."
"It's still under review," explains Donohoe, saying there's no timeline for a charging decision to be made.
Many Daily Weekly readers have shown support for the 19-year-old, arguing that the laws preventing sex with minors are unjust and that the student shouldn't face penalties for something he did not actually do.
As commenter rwsmom notes:
The US Laws are ridiculous and need reformed. Years ago our ancestors, probably our own grandparents and parents, met and married at these ages. Most countries don't have the laws we do. Elvis Presley met and married Priscilla when she was 14, Woody Allen married Mia Farrel when she was 14, we even have a Supreme Court Judge whom married his wife when she was 15, John Walsh met his ex wife when she was under 18 years old. Americans have sexualized our society and then want to punish our youth for the same? Wake up America! We can't have it both ways! Too many people and familes are hurt and chastized by these sex laws! Too many people are filling the beds of privatized prisons to keep them full. If you don't think the private prisons are behind these laws, think again! We have the highest incarceration rate of any other country in the world. Creating laws made from hysteria, which have been played in to by the US citizens afraid to learn the truth, are keeping prisons full! There are over 750,000 registered people on the sex offender registry. Many incarcerated for "crimes" for nothing more than urinating on a bush while camping, many are teenagers having consensual relations, some are taking pics of their children in the bathtub, streaking or men as old as 70 adjusting themselves in public. It has to stop and it has to stop NOW! WAKE UP AMERICA!! It could be you or your loved one next!
And as commenter chuck_nute writes:
If I sit outside with the intent of going inside to rob a bank, but as I sit there; I have second thoughts about it and change my mind and drive away; have I committed a crime just because I went there with intent? If that is the level we want to stoop to, we're all guilty of some crime, we've all considered doing something illegal, even if we dismissed it in short order. This has to stop.
