This morning around 8:30 a.m. Seattle police negotiators and firefighters responded to Green Lake after receiving a report that a man was in the water, yelling at bystanders and attempting to drown himself.

Roughly an hour later, the man - who police say appeared to be "experiencing a mental health issue" - was finally pulled from the lake, but not before causing quite a scene.

As Jonah Spangenthal-Lee reports on the SPD "Blotter" blog:

Around 8:30 am, police received a report that the man was in the water at Green Lake, yelling at bystanders and trying to drown himself.

Police and fire officials arrived at the lake, tried to coax the man out of the water, and tossed him a life preserver.

The man clung to the life preserver, but refused to come out of the lake.

Luckily, a 9:30 a.m. update to Spangenthal-Lee's post indicates the man finally came out and is now undergoing a medical evaluation.

Also, it appears the man was wearing clothes -- which, as history has shown us, isn't always the case in such situations.
