Like so many people, Pearl Jam's Mike McCready has what's known in the cold world of medical insurance as a "pre-existing condition." He suffers from Crohn's disease. Even as the guitarist of a world famous rock band, because of his battle with Crohn's McCready says he's been denied health insurance coverage twice. It's just one of many experiences that has inspired him to urge voters in the upcoming election to vote only for congressional candidates that support the Affordable Care Act - otherwise known as Obamacare.
Together with filmmaker Jesse Dylan, McCready dropped a short video today -- discussing his own struggles with Crohn's and what health care for all really means.
From the press release:
"Before the Affordable Care Act, people with conditions like mine could be denied coverage. I know. I was denied twice, even being a member of a famous rock band," said Mr. McCready. "The people who don't have those kind of resources, they are stuck, they have no choices. But now, we can't be denied insurance because of something we can't change--our illnesses. We have choices, we can be insured, and we can focus on having a life."
