According to reports this morning from KING 5, that's exactly the situation facing Trooper David Bertholf, who was disgracefully booked into the Pierce County Jail Sunday after being arrested for drunk driving and eluding officers during a pursuit he started.
As KING 5 reports:
The incident started when reports of a collision near SR 16 and Union Avenue came into WSP around 2:30 p.m., said [WSP spokesman Rob Huss].
Witnesses claimed a maroon SUV sideswiped another vehicle and then fled the scene. Troopers soon spotted the SUV and engaged in a short pursuit.
The SUV stopped near Portland Avenue in the area of Interstate 5. When the arresting trooper walked up to the driver's side of the car, he recognized Bertholf, Huss said.
Bertholf will be placed on administrative leave while his alleged gross, embarrassing, drunken negligence is investigated. When booked into jail Sunday his bail was reportedly set at $35,000.
