The PT Cruiser is easily one of the most miserable vehicles ever created. That's not a proven fact, mind you, just my humble opinion. But I think many would agree that the car is a fugly, ill-designed beast best suited for blue-haired grandmas and those who've lost all self respect.

Apparently, however, PT Cruisers are also good for crashing into the side of apartment buildings in South Seattle while fleeing the scene of a "disturbance" at a local business.

According to Seattle Police, that's just what happened at around 9:30 a.m. today near MLK Jr WY S and S. Walden Street.

As Detective Renee Witt describes on the SPD Blotter blog:

At approximately 9:30 this morning, officers responded to MLK Jr WY S and S. Walden St to a report of a vehicle into an apartment building. The driver freed himself and tried to flee the scene. Arriving officers contacted the driver and a struggle ensued as the man fought with them and refused to comply with their verbal commands.

According to witnesses, the driver and passenger had just left a business in the nearby area where the two were involved in a disturbance. The pair initially left the business but then returned where the driver/suspect assaulted two employees of the business because he thought they had called the police. The suspect in an attempt to flee the area after the assault collided into the apartment building.

Oops.

The good news is, police report the man driving the PT Cruiser was taken into custody without further incident. His passenger, however, had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Seattle Fire Department, and was subsequently transported to Harborview with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

According to Witt, the arrested driver was set to be transported to the South Precinct to be screened for signs of impairment by a Drug Recognition Officer, and later booked into King County Jail for assault and property damage.
