Last night police in Tacoma put out word that they were searching for two missing boys, Jeffrey A. Zupan and Zabian T. Welcome, ages 11 and 9, respectively. However, after what was probably a long night for the pair, Tacoma Police announced this morning that they had good news: Zupan and Welcome had been found apparently safe, sleeping on a planting strip near 1200 N Tacoma Ave.
Authorities say the boys frequent Tacoma's Wapato Park and Skip Vaughn Park, and were reported missing last night around 5 p.m. after a dispute with a caregiver - which led authorities to issue a media alert throughout the region.
However, after receiving a call from resident in the area this morning, Tacoma Police responded at 8:44 a.m. and were able to locate Zupan and Welcome.
"The caller reported they were sleeping on the planting strip in front of her residence," explains Tacoma Police Spokesperson Mark Fulghum. "Officers contacted the boys, confirmed it was the two missing subjects and that they were OK. The boys are being transported to the station to talk with detectives."
