Chris Hansen was named the Best Thing to Happen to Seattle This Year in the recently released Seattle Weekly Best of Seattle 2012 issue. And, assuming the political haggling over his arena proposal is simply due diligence and the deal eventually gets done, it's an honor well deserved. Hansen proved it yet again recently, putting his money where his mouth is and snapping up another chunk of SoDo real estate.

As KING 5's Chris Daniels reported this morning, Hansen recently locked up two more parcels of SoDo land for a cool $5.5 million. Located at 1712 and 1722 1st Avenue South, this most recent land deal means Hansen has dropped more than $40 million on land for his proposed arena so far - even though the Seattle City Council has yet to give the plan its official blessing (in the form of an approved MOU).

Here's a chunk from Michael Mahoney's Best of Seattle ode to Hansen:

The Oklahoma City Thunder are a monument to Howard Schultz's greed, David Stern's indifference, Clay Bennett's duplicity, and local politicians' complicity. Seattle SuperSonics 2.0 (eventually) will be a testament to Chris Hansen's generosity, loyalty, and commitment--and to the passion of a wounded fan base that never stopped believing.

Nothing says commitment like bringing out the checkbook.
