Despite the mayor's elderly age, the saga of Pacific Mayor Cy Sun just wont peter out. As we reported as recently as yesterday, Sun has been embroiled in a political fiasco the likes of which the small town of Pacific has never seen before. He's been firing folks left and right, and even ended up in handcuffs himself last week.
As a previous post by Seattle Weekly's Rick Anderson noted:
Pacific's crotchety mayor has rained down pink slips on his city, firing altogether four cops and the city clerk this week, then ducking the media [Thursday]. A new recall petition has also been launched.
This morning the craziness has continued. KING 5 reports that Sun locked himself inside City Hall for a period of time while picketers from the "growing recall movement" against him rallied nearby.
From KING 5:
Sun emerged from his office to meet with four Pacific police officers, including the city's acting police chief, whose jobs were on the line Friday. All four of the officers will return to work.
Just one day ago, Sun skipped the appeal hearing for fired City Clerk Jane Montgomery, accused of locking her office door to prevent Sun from gaining access to personnel files on July 19.
The KING 5 story also notes that a $2.2 million claim against Pacific has now been filed on Montgomery's behalf, and the King County Sheriff's office is investigating whether city records were destroyed.
For coverage of the fiasco that's closest to the source, the recall movement against Sun has created a website where a myriad of posts detail yesterday's craziness and updates from this morning's hearings regarding the four police officers Sun initially wanted to fire can be found.
