Jesus Crab or bin Laden Crab? You Make the Call ...

Somehow I missed this yesterday afternoon. Luckily, eagle-eyed Seattle Weekly music scribe and regular Reverb contributor Julia Mullen Gordon was all over it, tweeting me a link to this amazing post from Gawker: So-Called 'Jesus Crab' Looks Exactly Like Osama bin Laden.

Admit it: You're already fucking hooked. Turns out, the story originates from a post from yesterday afternoon on mynorthwest.com by KIRO 97.3 FM reporter Chris Sullivan. Sullivan, you see, is friends with the Canfield family. And the Canfield family, you see, recently went crabbing. While crabbing, quite miraculously, they happened to capture video of a female crab that's underside looks JUST LIKE OSAMA BIN LADEN!

Or, JESUS CHRIST!

It's tough to say.

The story from Sullivan on mynorthwest.com leans toward Jesus:

I know this family. Their sons have played on the baseball teams that I coach. I trust them. As dad John Canfield told me "we're not that sophisticated" to come up with a hoax. In fact, he didn't even want to tell anyone what he thought he saw on the video until he shared it with his wife. I asked him about Photoshop. I asked him if the family drew the face on the crab and dropped it in the pot. John said "no," and I believe him.

Again, his wife sent me the photo because she thought I'd find it funny. We're Catholics. These things are funny to us. The Canfields are not claiming this is the face of Jesus.

Gawker, on the other hand, is all in for Bin Laden:

Regardless of whether or not you trust those dodgy Canfields, there's one point on which we can all agree: No Jesus in that crab. It's all bin Laden.

I guess it kind of depends on your perspective. What do you see?
