In case you couldn't feel the excitement in the air, the Washington state Republican convention - which has been raging in Tacoma since Wednesday - will kick into high gear this afternoon with the beginning of the delegate selection process. There hasn't been this much heated anticipation in the City of Destiny since Nickelback tickets went on sale.

As the Associated Press describes:

The state will send 43 delegates to the national convention in Tampa, Fla. While Mitt Romney won the state's caucus straw poll in March, the caucuses were just the first in a multistep process to officially allocate 40 of those delegates to a candidate, and supporters of Ron Paul are still hoping to have a significant presence in August.

Thirty delegates are elected on Friday during the congressional district caucuses, and 10 are elected Saturday. Three additional are automatic delegates, and include the state party chairman.

Not surprisingly, many local media outlets have dispatched reporters to the scene of the GOP action - and the tweets have been flying fast and furious because of it.

Here's a sampling:

The News Tribune in Tacoma has Peter Callaghan and Jordan Schrader on the story ...

Not to be outdone, Seattle Times has Jim Brunner in action in Tacoma ...

Sounds like a good time, doesn't it?

My guess is all these GOP-ers in Tacoma head to The Swiss tonight for some meat-market action and the soothing sounds of Harmonious Funk.
