In a story that's destined to be all over the Internet today, a woman was arrested earlier this week at the 333 Oak Apartments in downtown Portland - the result of a possible kidnapping call police had received earlier in the day. But what they discovered was far more bizarre.
As The Oregonian reports, residents of the 333 Oak Apartments say 52-year-old Curtis T. Lowe had long made a habit of lugging around a pink suitcase on wheels. Though many wondered why, and what could possibly be inside the suitcase, no one had an answer to that question ... until now.
On Monday afternoon a 911 caller told police a man had kidnapped a woman, placed her inside a pink suitcase, and pulled the rolling piece of luggage into the apartment complex. When officers responded, the building manager suggested they check with Lowe.
When contacted by police, Lowe denied any knowledge of a woman in a suitcase. Not convinced, officers searched his apartment, at which point they discovered the pink suitcase in question, and more importantly 50-year-old Kola J. McGrath hiding in a closet.
From The Oregonian:
The woman, described by police as 5-foot-6 and 96 pounds, told officers she had not been kidnapped. Instead, she was hiding in the suitcase because she had been banned from the apartment complex since April 2011.
Workers at the complex said McGrath and Lowe were in a relationship. But she was banned after breaking a fire extinguisher case with her purse while arguing with him, [333 Oak Apartments Courtesy Clerk Aisea] Poulivaati said. She also had been warned about violating the building's visitation policy.
The Oregonian reports McGrath was arrested and booked into Multnomah County Jail on a trespassing count.
All of this once again proving love will make a person do some damn strange things.
