Five Ways to Spend Your 20-Hour Seattle City Light Power Outage

As you've probably heard, at 11 p.m. tonight Seattle City Light crews will cut power to about 130 businesses and 200 residences as part of an effort to inspect power lines in the area. The power will stay off for roughly 20 hours before being turned back on Wednesday evening. This raises the question for those living in the area: What should you do during your 20-hour blackout?

Luckily, at Seattle Weekly we're here to help. Here are some (dare we say) awesome suggestions about how to burn idle time with no electricity.

Sex

Your Xbox isn't going to work without power. Your genitals, however, will. People have been killing idle time since the beginning of time by indulging in carnal desires, and tonight's planned power outage presents a fine opportunity to do just that.

Board Games by Candlelight

Remember how when you were a kid and the power went out your family would gather around the Monopoly or Sorry board and spend the hours bonding and laughing? No? What's that? Your dad was an alcoholic and your mom loved your baby brother more than you? Well, shit. OK. Still, board games can be fun.

Listen to the Radio

Back in the day there was this device known as the radio that picked up radio waves beamed into the air and pumped out music or programming in return. Old people really seemed to get a kick out of it. These were simpler times. Still, a trip down memory lane may be in order tonight.

Get Wasted

This one's foolproof. Scared about how you're going to survive without electricity? Just get tanked. You can pass out on the couch in your clothes with or without power - it's a scientific fact. And if you drink enough when you wake up everything will be back to normal ... except your liver.

Read ... An Actual Book, Newspaper or Magazine

Believe it or not, there was a time when actual words got printed on actual pages. The glory days, we'll call it. Best of all, if you know where to look, these pages with words still exist! You'd be well served by spending your blackout reacquainting yourself with this revolutionary way of ingesting information and entertainment - if for nothing more than the nostalgia factor. And don't be too freaked out: when the power comes back on you can post all about it on Facebook.
