Maybe you heard about the tiger on the loose in Puyallup yesterday. Check that. Of course you heard about the tiger on the loose in Puyallup yesterday! Everyone heard about the tiger on the loose in Puyallup yesterday. It was huge. It stole the show. And, for a few hours at least, it made Twitter lose its goddamn mind.
The backstory: Early yesterday afternoon, according to Tacoma's News Tribune, Travis Johnson reported seeing a tiger while tending his chicken coop. Or at least he saw what he believes was a tiger. Either way, it freaked him the hell out and he called 911. Pierce County Pierce County Sheriff's Spokesman Ed Troyer tells the Tribune at least one other person reported seeing the tiger as well, so authorities checked it out. It was the only prudent thing to do.
From the Tribune:
"I saw a cat," said Johnson, 28. "I'm afraid for my chickens and goats - 200-pound cat, a big boy. I asked around. I guess a lot of people have seen it. That freaks me out. We're talking a cat that could bound 30 feet at a time."
Johnson said he saw the animal on his neighbor's property earlier in the afternoon and called 911. It was blond with black stripes, he said. Not a coyote, he was sure - he has seen those before, and shot at them.
"I am not seeing things," he said.
According to the Tribune's account, Pierce County Sheriff's officers and animal control searched for two hours near the 4400 block of Gay Road in Puyallup, but found no tiger.
Before long, however, the Puyallup Tiger was on Twitter, thus proving its existence.
