As we've noted before, not everyone is cut out for drug smuggling. It's not an easy gig. For instance, sometimes it requires a person to do something like swallow 42 condoms filled with suspected liquid cocaine.
According to the Canadian Border Service Agency, a traveler heading for Sydney, Australia from Vancouver International Airport was apprehended April 26 after authorities conducting a routine outbound currency check determined something was amiss with the man. A press release notes, "officers noticed inconsistencies in the traveler's statements and referred him for a more thorough examination."
Turns out the border agents were on to something. The "more thorough examination" concluded that this particular traveler may have ingested what's described as "a large amount of narcotics."
Which, as it would turn out, is kind of an understatement.
The man was arrested by border service agents and taken to a nearby hospital for observation. That's where the real fun began.
According to the press release;
The traveler eventually expelled 42 condoms filled with suspected narcotics. Once doctors confirmed there was no more contraband in the traveler's system, border services officers transferred him into the custody of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police along with the suspected drugs.
In total, the 42 condoms were filled with what authorities contend was 1.26kg of liquid cocaine.
"This seizure highlights the vigilance of our border services officers, as their training and experience led them to intercept a significant amount of suspected illegal drugs, even when such drastic concealment methods were used," said Acting Director for the Canada Border Services Agency Ken Macpherson in a statement.
He's right. It doesn't get much more drastic than putting 42 drug-filled condoms down the hatch.
