Steven Powell, the father of Josh Powell - who's wife Susan has been missing since 2009 - was in Pierce County court Monday, facing 14 counts of voyeurism. Josh Powell, of course, killed himself and the couple's two sons in early February of this year. Prosecutors in Pierce County filed voyeurism charges against Steven Powell after they say a search warrant at the house in Puyallup he shared with his son after Susan's disappearance uncovered images of females, including Susan Powell, being videotaped without their knowledge.
From the AP story:
Steven Powell's bedroom also contained images of nude female bodies with Susan Powell's face copied onto them, authorities said in court documents.
Yesterday in court Steven Powell's attorney argued that the search warrant used to uncover alleged pieces of evidence like the aforementioned was illegal, saying anything found during the serving of the warrant should be suppressed. A judge denied that motion this morning, and Steven Powell's trial is scheduled to begin May 7.
Authorities say the search warrant was intended to find diaries Susan Powell had kept since childhood that Josh and Steven Powell had initially agreed to hand over to police, but later changed their mind about. Portions of the diaries were posted on a website that Josh Powell maintained - susanpowell.org - and also shared with national media like the Today Show. Charging documents contend the Powells had become uncooperative about sharing the diaries, which was the impetus for serving the search warrant at the home where Josh and Steven Powell lived.
The charging documents (posted below) go into great detail about videos and images Steven Powell allegedly shot from his bedroom of a nearby house where two young girls sometimes showered and used in an upstairs bathroom that was visible from Steven Powell's bedroom. Investigators also say they found images that Steven Powell took of himself naked and masturbating.
