New Seahawks Jerseys and Logo Coming Tuesday

Local sports fans are filled with mixed emotions. On one hand, the unveiling of the new Seahawks uniforms Tuesday in New York is something worth getting excited about; chances are whatever happens will be way less nauseating than those lime green atrocities from a few years back. On the other hand, with Nike replacing Reebok as the NFL's jersey provider, and many area fans familiar with Nike's work with the University of Oregon's notoriously ridiculous football uniforms, there's an underlying fear that things could go terribly wrong.

Think feathers on the shoulder pad. Or the illusion of diamond plating. Or 17 other wretched combinations.

With Nike scoring the NFL gig, the Seahawks are one of two teams using the opportunity to change logos - with the Carolina Panthers being the other. The Panthers, however, have already released the team's new-look design. The Seahawks are keeping things closer to Tarvaris Jackson's flak jacket.

That's not to say there aren't theories floating around about what the new Seahawks logo might look like.

Enter The Seattle Times' Danny O'Neil:

The team has not released anything regarding the new uniforms nor a new logo nor commented on it. In fact, the whole thing is a pretty closely guarded secret with precautions taken to make sure pictures don't leak out.

However, the NFL Network featured what might have been Seattle's new logo in two different segments during its programming this week, one titled "State of the Franchise" and the other called "On the Clock." Each segment began with a graphic featuring a Seahawks logo with what appeared to be a light lower stripe behind the bird's head. When the segment shifted to the NFL Network studio, the Seahawks logo featured behind the anchor did not have a lighter lower stripe. Rather, it was the logo the team has used the previous 10 years with two different shades of blue stripes.

Did the league's network give an unofficial glimpse of the Seahawks' new logo? We won't know for sure until next week.

The above bit of juiciness published last Thursday. So far no Deep Throat-like source has come forward to provide any further information.

That's not to say Nick Eaton over at SeattlePI.com hasn't tried his damndest to crack this story early.

Exactly how will the new Seahawks jerseys look? It appears we'll have to wait and find out.

Personally, I'm hoping for something closer to the Stan Gelbaugh era than
