Rep. Sam Hunt is none too pleased that Costo won its $22 million battle to take down Washington's liquor system, and now he's seeking revenge. The Olympia Democrat is proposing legislation to prohibit the state's Liquor Control Board from "issuing spirits retail licenses to certain membership organizations."
"What I'm doing is prohibiting the big box stores that charge membership fees from selling hard liquor," Hunt told Seattle Weekly today. His main target, of course, is Costco.
"I think when someone goes out and buys an election, there are consequences," adds Hunt. The lawmaker concedes that the bill is "a protest piece of legislation."
Glad you could get it off your chest, Sam. Bottom's up.
